Write Stuff [23]

Write Stuff  is based on the Wannabe Writers meme hosted by Sarah at Confessions of the Un-Published. This meme is what prompted me to start Writer Quirk, so I am thankful to Sarah for creating it.

I use this meme to talk about the ups and downs of writing, what I'm working on, and, in November, to chronicle my NaNoWriMo journey.

Hello quirks! As you can see from that green NaNoWriMo status bar over on the right (and the banner) I met the 50k goal! YAY!

I was honestly doubting it there for a while but with a little hard work (and a lot of word padding) I made it. However, it was probably the hardest writing experience I have had thus far. Part of my problem was the timing, because along with November came illness, depression, and the continued stress of life and having to face Thanksgiving without my dad for the first time. None of that would have been easy of itself, but while trying to make time to write? I was pretty much a basket case.

But another issue I had was that this story, A Girl Like Thunder, was my first attempt at writing YA contemporary. Had I had a chance to outline it like I had originally planned, maybe it would not have been as rough. Still, I really really missed being able to just throw something crazy and magical in there to stir the pot and get things moving.

All issues aside, I finished it, it is done, and it will stay in the digital drawer until I can get up the courage to look at it again. I am trying to figure out if I want to take off of writing for the entire month of December or if I want to try to write on my first novel (the purple progress bar to the right) again. I think I might be able to do the latter now that I have had the chance to work on something else and get some separation from it being the novel I was working on when my dad passed. Either way, I am glad November is over and am looking forward to any and all writing adventures.

How did you do with NaNoWriMo? What are you working on now? Let me know in the comments! ^_^

  1. Congrats on hitting the NaNo goal! I tip my hat to you, and look forward to reading it someday (hint hint). I was too much of a chicken to NaNo this year (plus I can't seem to change lanes mid-project, and therefore November was spent on...well, you know), but I'm making a tentative resolution to do it next year.

There. I said it out loud.

Anyway, you are AWESOME for passing the magical 50K (especially without being able to use magic in the book...something I have trouble fathoming)! Congratulations!

  2. Yay! Glad you made it. When I did NaNo last year, I tried to not delete anything I wrote. If I rewrote a scene, I kept the old one so my count didn't go down. Otherwise I wouldn't have made it! I think if I would ever do NaNo again, I would have to plot out my story in its entirety. It was a bit rough here and there since I didn't plan it. I'm still working out all the kinks of that draft, lol. :P
