Working Writer Wednesday [3]

Working Writer Wednesday is a weekly meme based on the Wannabe Writer meme hosted by Sarah at Confessions of the Un-Published. This meme is what prompted me to start Writer Quirk, so I am thankful to Sarah for creating it and allowing ANYONE (even a quirkster like me) to join up. So go visit her site and the others who participate. Do it.

Where I am in the writing process:  I started on chapter seven of my re-write, and while I like it on it's own, I don't feel like it is heading in the right direction for plot.

My current problem(s):  Same as last time - not getting enough writing in and whatever gets written is utter poo.

Sarah's ???:  How do you experience writer's block?

My answer:  I don't think I ever really have writer's block in the traditional sense. Mine is more a slump where I am simply not writing enough and hate whatever I do write. I'm pretty good about knowing where I'm going in my story as far as the big destinations are concerned. It's the bridges between those stops that I have trouble with, though not enough trouble I would call it a blockage.

I always figure out something to write, even if it is poo and doesn't make sense. This skill was honed during NaNoWriMo and has helped me realize that sometimes you don't need ideas or perfection to continue writing, you just need to keep writing. The ideas and knowledge of how to complete/improve your work will arrive when they arrive, but that's no reason to stop writing. Usually I wind up writing on something else entirely, or something different within the story I'm working on, but never stop. Don't edit, don't overanalyze. That is what re-writes and revisions are for.

My ???:  Do you edit as you go or do you write through and edit later?

That's it for this time!

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I'm not a writer, but a librarian, so I love hearing about your process. With any luck, you'll be published someday, and I'll have your books on my shelves!

  2. Thanks! I certainly hope so!

Love your name, by the way. It is unique. I've never met a Madigan before! I may have to use it in a story! ^_^
